A Saltsburg man charged with causing a crash that killed a woman and a teenager in Plum was found guilty of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence and related counts on Wednesday in Allegheny County Court.
Reports say that 27-year-old Edward Cass III of Saltsburg is facing three to six years in prison for the crash on a stretch of Route 286 called the Golden Mile Highway on August 6th of 2017. Prosecutors during the trial said 43-year-old Beth Ann Beveridge was driving with her daughter in the front seat, and the daughter’s boyfriend, 17-year-old Michael Zier in the backseat when Cass’ vehicle crossed the center line near Pine Valley Plaza. Beveridge died at the scene. Zier was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital. Beveridge’s daughter was injured, but she survived the crash.
Cass remains free on bail while he awaits the sentencing hearing on September 24th.
