In a letter posted to the district’s Facebook page on Wednesday, officials with the Homer-Center School District addressed false rumors concerning accommodations in school buildings.
Officials said that the district received numerous calls regarding a post on the Homer City Crime Watch Facebook page suggesting that the district placed kitty litter boxes in restrooms to accommodate for students who allegedly identify as cats.
In addition, the district received calls that high school students were leading each other through hallways with leashes because they identified as dogs.
After investigating the claims, officials concluded that there are no litter boxes in any school restroom, nor did they receive any notice of students identifying as a cat, dog, or other animal. They also said that, through surveillance video and interviews conducted with students who commented on the post in question, no students were led through the hallways by leashes.
District officials thanked those who sought out accuracies and inaccuracies with the post, and the district looks forward to putting the rumors to rest.
