Indiana County’s unemployment rate went up in the month of May.
The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry said in their news release earlier today that the Indiana County unemployment rate increased by half a percentage point to 4.6 percent. Over the months of February, March and April, the unemployment rate went unchanged at 4.1 percent. With the increase, Indiana County is in a 6-way tie for 45th in the state. Among the neighboring counties, Indiana County ties with Clearfield and Armstrong for the highest in the area. Westmoreland County had the lowest unemployment in our area with 4.1%. Jefferson County’s unemployment rate is at 4.3% and Cambria County’s unemployment rate is 4.5%.
The total number of non-farm jobs in the county went unchanged over the month at 32,500. Jobs went up by 300 over the last 12 months.
