At Thursday’s IUP Council of Trustees meeting, IUP’s president discussed the student population and the retention rate of first-year students.
Dr. Michael Driscoll said that the student population will be around 8800-8900 students, which is a drop from last year, and he said that first-year student retention was around 70%. He said that while that’s around where the numbers have been historically, the university can and should do better.
To help increase those numbers, the university is undergoing some infrastructure design changes. Driscoll said one of the changes is a new student success task force that’s dedicated to helping students with academic deficiencies before they grow into big problems.
In other business, the council approved the university’s Order of Succession plan to appoint interim and acting chief executive officers, and approved the President’s Triennial Evaluation.
