Penguins captain Sidney Crosby is one of three finalists tonight for the Hart Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s most valuable player. The NHL Awards are in Las Vegas, and the other finalists are Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov and Edmonton’s Connor McDavid. Kucherov is the overwhelming favorite. Crosby has won the award twice. He says he’s amazed at the young talent right now in the NHL, especially guys like Kucherov and McDavid.
Talking to reporters in Vegas yesterday for the first time since the season ended, Crosby said he has been in Europe for much of the offseason so he has not heard much of the talk about changes to the Penguins roster after last season’s disappointments. He said he would love to keep playing with Kris Letang and Geno Malkin, who have been rumored to be on the trading block. But, he said, he also understands that when you fail to meet the high standards such as the Penguins have, you can expect changes.
The Penguins will open their preseason against the Sabres at Pegula Ice Arena at Penn State on September 16th. The Pens will play three games at home during the preseason, which wraps up September 28th.
