A bill authored by State Representative Jim Struzzi passed the House of Representatives yesterday and is now headed to the Senate for consideration.
The legislation would require the state Budget Secretary to report revenue shortfall projections for the fiscal year starting in December, and to put equal amounts of money into the budgetary reserve to balance the budget.
While Pennsylvania has a budget surplus this year, Struzzi told Indiana In the Morning on WCCS last week that the state needs to control the urge to spend it, because it’s the people’s money.
After the bill passed the House yesterday, Struzzi said, “We understand that money must be spent in order to accomplish the goals we have in our Commonwealth, but we also need to understand where that money comes from. Rising budget deficits will lead to tax increases, which hurts all the citizens of Pennsylvania. We need to be proactive about preventing that from happening.”
