State police have charged a Homer City woman with stealing liquor from a state liquor store last week in White Township. Troopers say that Paige Baily Johnson of Homer City went into the Fine Wine and Good Spirits Store on Ben Franklin Road around 5:58 PM on June 12th and took a 12 pack of 50 mL bottles of cinnamon whiskey. She took the bottles out of the packaging and was able to walk by all the cash registers. Police are charging her with retail theft.
Police say one person was charged with Driving under the influence Sunday afternoon for an incident in Center Township. Police say they received a report of a single-vehicle accident on Old Route 56 North. The driver allegedly fled the scene, but was later found by police to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. The driver was taken to IRMC for a blood draw and then onward to the state police barracks for further processing. Charges are forthcoming.
One person was injured in a crash in Montgomery Township. State police say 18-year-old McKenzie Watson of Cherry Tree was driving South on Kerr Road when for unknown reasons, Watson bailed out of the car while it was going 30 to 35 miles an hour. The car went down Kerr Road, through a grassy area and struck a building, going into it and hitting a boat before coming to rest. Watson was taken to Miners Hospital in Hastings for Treatment, and she will be cited in connection with this crash.
State police are looking into an incident where someone was scammed out of their tax return. The first incident was reported April 4th after someone using the personal information of a 52-year-old Young Township Woman to fraudulently file a tax return. Another scam was reported, this time on June 5th in White Township. State police say the scammer sent an email to the victim, a 52-year-old woman from White Township. She believed that the person emailing her was her supervisor and ordered her to purchase a Google gift card worth $500 and send it to them that day.
