The next phase in a reconstruction plan on Route 119 through Homer City and Center Township will begin next week. The $15.25 million “Route 119 Homer City Three Bridges Project” will rehabilitate the bridge carrying Route 119 over Yellow Creek and will remove the bridge structures carrying the highway over Tide Road and an abandoned private railroad. Tide Road will become an intersection with Route 119.
Another aspect of the project will be a widening of Route 119 and the installation of a concrete median barrier to separate northbound and southbound traffic between Route 56 and the new connector road between 119 and Old Route 119 at the Sheetz store. And the traffic signal at the dangerous Route 119/Route 56 intersection will be replaced.
It’s a two-year construction project that is expected to be completed in late fall of 2019, and PennDOT says drivers should be alert for changing traffic patterns, flaggers, and congestion.
