With their contract set to expire June 30th, the negotiators for the State System of Higher Education and coaches at the state-owned universities last week exchanged proposals for a new deal. Contract talks began last July.
The latest session was held at the office of APSCUF, the faculty union, which represents not only State System faculty but also about 5,500 coaches at the 14 schools. A four-year retroactive contract was signed in December of 2016. The next coaches’ negotiations are scheduled for July 1st.
Meanwhile, contract talks for the State System faculty are scheduled to resume June 19th. The last sessions were May 13th and 14th. The two side are trying a new strategy this time around, called “interest-based bargaining,” which focuses on collaboration instead of the traditional exchange of proposals.
As is the case with the coaches, the faculty contract expires on June 30th.
