Joe Musgrove allowed five hits and struck out six Braves to lead the Pirates to a 7-4 victory over Atlanta at PNC Park Wednesday night.
Musgrove pitched into the ninth inning, but his bid for his first career complete game ended when he gave up back-to-back solo home runs to lead off the inning.
Elias Diaz and Colin Moran homered and Starling Marte and Gregory Polanco had three hits apiece for the Pirates, who snapped a three-game losing streak.
In the second inning. Diaz hit his first home run of the year to make it 2-1 Pittsburgh. Then, with two outs and nobody on, Musgrove started a run of five consecutive base hits off losing pitcher Kevin Gausman, and the Pirates ended up with five runs in the inning.
The game was delayed about two hours by the threat of thunderstorms.
Here’s a recap by Joe Block.
