A Young Township man was killed Saturday afternoon when a carport roof suddenly fell on him at his home along Weiss Road.
52-year-old Richard Wade Rearick was sitting on a chair against the wall at the rear of the home when the roof gave way at the point at which it was connected to the roof trusses. Rearick’s mother was inside the home and told rescuers she heard a cracking sound, followed by the noise of the carport roof falling.
The Indiana County Coroner’s office says Rearick died instantly from a broken neck.
Firefighters from three companies were dispatched to the Shelocta-area home at 12:22 Saturday afternoon.
