The Acting Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar paid a visit to the Indiana County Commissioners yesterday to discuss how the elections went with the new voting system put in place, and to present the commissioners with a check to help reimburse the county for the purchase of the new voting machines.

The issue of new voting machines came about as Governor Tom Wolf mandated new voting machines with verifiable paper trails for all of Pennsylvania’s counties by the next presidential election year in 2020. Boockvar talked about how important that paper trail is.

Indiana County Commissioners went with an upgraded version of the system that they had used for the past several years, so voters may have seen a few cosmetic changes, but it was still the same “fill in the oval” method that had been used for many years. Commissioners chairman Mike Baker talked about one of the changes in the system that voters may not have seen.

Commissioners reported no glitches or problems with the process for this primary and are looking forward to the general election in November.
