NFL teams were under a 4 PM deadline to cut rosters to 80 players yesterday, and the Steelers dropped five guys, including their seventh-round draft choice, quarterback Chris Oladokun. Also cut yesterday were running back Mataeo Durant, kicker Nick Sciba, wide receiver Christian Blake, and linebacker Genard Avery, who was a starter last year for the Eagles and whom the Steelers were hoping would claim the primary outside backup job.
The roster must be cut to 53 players next Tuesday.
One area where the Steelers are strongest is on the defensive line, with All-Pro Cam Heyward, the returning of Tyson Alualu, and new signee Larry Ogunjobi. Heyward says the d-line is deep and talented.
The Steelers tackle the Detroit Lions in their final preseason game on Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh.
