The three-game series concludes this afternoon at PNC Park. Mitch Keller [4-9, 4.49 ERA] returns to the mound for the first time since his poor outing last week against Boston, when he lasted only two innings and gave up four runs. He’ll face Braves righty Kyle Wright [15-5, 3.14 ERA]. It’s a 12:10 airtime on WCCS.
The Pirates activated Ke’Bryan Hayes from the 10-day injured list. He started at third base and was 0-for-4. The Bucs sent infielder Kevin Padlo to Indianapolis.
MLB
The Dodgers say star pitcher Walker Buehler had Tommy John elbow surgery yesterday. It’s his second Tommy John procedure. He had a successful UCL reconstruction and a flexor tendon repair. Buehler will miss the entire 2023 season.
Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. yesterday apologized to his teammates first and then to the public for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs. He also apologized for his multiple motorcycle crashes that led to his wrist injury, which he suffered last offseason, and announced that he will have shoulder surgery. Tatis is suspended for 80 games because of the PEDs.
ALTOONA
Altoona won for the 10th time in 12 games, knocking off Bowie, 7-5. Malcom Nunez hit a three-run homer in the first inning and finished with four RBIs. Endy Rodriguez homered and Blake Sabol had three hits, including two doubles. Jared Triolo had two hits. Quinn Priester gave up five runs in five-and-a-third innings, but only one of them was earned.
