The Indiana Mall will suffer another blow with the loss of one of its four anchor stores, according to the Business Insider website. An internal company list published by Business Insider and other major media includes 16 Sears stores, 49 Kmarts, and seven auto centers.
The Sears store at the Indiana Mall is not on the list but the Kmart is one of three Pennsylvania Kmarts scheduled to close, most likely in September. The Kmart is one of the four original anchors from the Indiana Mall’s opening in 1979. The other three, Sears, Bon Ton, and JCPenney, are still open, although the JC Penney store found itself on a published list of stores “likely” to close earlier this year before the company announced that it will remain open.
In addition to the Indiana Kmart, the list includes the Butler and Belle Vernon stores.
We reached out to Indiana Mall management for comment, and management deferred to Zamias Services, the mall’s parent company. We are continuing to reach out to Zamias Services for further comment.
