State Police Indiana Station Commander Lieutenant Joseph Loughran says there will be a “zero tolerance” traffic enforcement approach on Indiana County’s roads this Memorial Day weekend, with state troopers specifically watching for distracted, aggressive, and intoxicated motorists. The Indiana Patrol Unit will be out in force throughout the three-day holiday weekend.
Last year, state troopers wrote 871 citations and 208 warnings in Indiana County on Memorial Day weekend. They handled eight traffic accidents with two injuries, neither of them fatal. None of the eight wrecks were alcohol-related.
Troopers also made five criminal arrests on the holiday weekend last year, and twelve individuals were arrested for driving under the influence. 518 of the traffic citations were for speeding.
Police ask that drivers make an extra effort to keep the roads safe this weekend.
