With the conclusion of the spring semester, faculty members at the State System of Higher Education are just weeks away from the expiration of the current labor deal. The expiring one-year contract was the second consecutive one-year deal the union signed after the expiration of a three-year retroactive contract agreement signed in December of 2016.
Both the union and the State System have largely remained quiet on negotiations toward a new contract. APSCUF, the faculty union, does say that there is a bargaining session scheduled this week. Union members last week voted to ratify a “side-letter of agreement for phased faculty retirement”, which will be forwarded to the State System Board of Governors for approval. APSCUF says the letter will be published when the new contract is agreed upon.
In addition to a new contract for faculty members, the union and State System are also negotiating a new deal for coaches at the fourteen state-owned universities.
