A 16-year-old girl was flown by medical helicopter from an accident scene involving an Indiana Area School District bus yesterday afternoon on Rustic Lodge Road in Center Township. State police say the girl was a passenger on the bus driven by 59-year-old Robin Thornsberry of Lucernemines. The vehicle left the road and went into a ditch before striking a tree. It then re-entered the road and rolled onto its driver’s side, coming to rest just before reaching the intersection with Old Route 56. Thornsberry was injured and taken to the Indiana Regional Medical Center. The girl, who is not publicly identified, was flown to UPMC Forbes Regional Hospital.
A Blairsville man was injured early Monday in a two-vehicle crash on Old William Penn Highway in Blairsville. State police say 49-year-old Donald Isherwood was attempting to make a left turn when he was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by 18-year-old Thomas Usher of Pittsburgh. Isherwood suffered a minor injury but did not require medical treatment. Usher was cited for driving too fast.
An Indiana woman was taken to Forbes Regional Medical Center early Monday when she hit a tree that had fallen onto Route 286 in Young Township. Police say 38-year-old Tonya Huey was driving at about 4:30 AM in a torrential downpour and could not see the tree. Her passenger was unhurt. The tree struck the vehicle’s windshield and roof.
A Cherry Tree man escaped injury last Friday morning in a crash on Airport Road in Cherryhill Township. Police say 43-year-old Jeffrey Morris missed a left-hand curve, exited the road and traveled about 205 feet before striking a tree. He was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.
