If you see a heavy police presence today at United High School, there is no need for worry, as state police are putting on a full-scale emergency exercise today at the school.
In a news release, state police say that the exercise this morning is to help practice a multi-agency response to a simulated criminal incident at the Junior-Senior High School, and they will be taking a look at lockdown procedures, emergency response, incident command structure, and multi-agency communications. Today is an in-service day at the district, so students will not be present for the exercise.
Along with the state police and the United School District, those taking part in the drills today include the county sheriff’s office, PEMA, Indiana County 911 and Emergency Management Agency, Citizen’s Ambulance, the Indiana County Special Medical Response Team, and township supervisors from East Wheatfield and West Wheatfield townships.
The exercise is expected to wrap up by this afternoon.
