With students set to return to school within the next couple weeks, state officials are advocating for students to get their vaccines before they get back in the classroom.
While the COVID-19 vaccine is not required for those returning to school, officials with the Wolf Administration, PA Department of Health, and the PA Department of Human Services emphasized the importance of getting other vaccinations earlier this week. All grade school students are required to receive at least:
- Four doses of tetanus, diphtheria and acellular pertussis.
- Four doses of polio – unless the third dose was administered at four years old or older AND at least six months after the previous dose. At that point, only three are required.
- Two doses of measles, mumps and rubella.
- Three doses of hepatitis B.
- Two doses of chickenpox or evidence of immunity.
More information on back-to-school vaccination requirements can be found on the PA Department of Health’s website.
