The United girls’ track and field team won the Heritage Conference track and field championship again, beating Marion Center out by 14 points, at United High School on Tuesday.
The Lions were most dominant in the throwing events (42 points) with a sweep of the discus, shot put and javelin by Maizee Fry. United was also strong in the hurdles, with Laura Susick winning both the 100 and 300 races. Arguably the strongest performance of the day came from Marion Center in distance running (52 points). The Stingers’ MacKenzie Walker highlighted the effort with wins in the 1,600 and 3,200.
In the boys’ team competition, Ligonier Valley dominated with 145 points, 14 more than Homer-Center. Elliot Rost won both the 100 and 200 sprints for Ligonier Valley. The Wildcats garnered the most points in any area of competition with 50 in jumping events. Caleb Learn won both the high jump and the long jump. Marion Center’s Hunter Armstrong took first place in the 1600 and 3200 races.
