Steelers players put on the pads for the morning session yesterday because of the threat of inclement weather, but coach Mike Tomlin said the early start didn’t affect them. Mornings are usually reserved for walk-through practices, but the team flipped the practice schedule and did walk-through work in the afternoon.
Tomlin says the team was ready to go right from the start for the two-hour morning session.
Linebacker Alex Highsmith missed practice with a rib injury suffered on Monday and guard Kevin Dotson also sat out with an ankle injury. Nose tackle Montravius Adams left practice after injuring his ankle. About eight others were limited with nagging injuries.
One player who has impressed observers at training camp is second-year defensive lineman Isaiah Loudermilk. Tomlin says Loudermilk came to camp ready to go.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is calling for at least a full-year suspension for Cleveland Browns’ quarterback Deshaun Watson. Goodell said evidence from sexual misconduct allegations against Watson shows “egregious” actions and “predatory behavior.” The league last week appealed the six-game suspension handed down to the quarterback by a retired federal judge. Former New Jersey Attorney General Peter Harvey will hear the appeal. There’s no timetable on when a ruling will be made.
Browns wide receiver and kick returner Jakeem Grant Sr. suffered what the team believes to be a torn Achilles in practice yesterday. Cleveland signed Grant to a three-year deal this offseason to be their kick and punt returner.
Rams coach Sean McVay said yesterday that he signed a contract extension in the offseason, but the team has yet to formally announce the agreement. According to McVay, Los Angeles was waiting to sign general manager Les Snead to an extension and announce the deals together.
