Five ACC schools made the preseason USA Today Sports/American Football Coaches Association Top 25 poll, which was announced yesterday. The Pitt Panthers come in at No. 16. Clemson is the highest-ranked ACC team, at number four. NC State is ranked 13th, Miami s 17th, and Wake Forest 19th.
Only the SEC, with six teams ranked in the Top 25, had more than the ACC. Alabama opens the season at number one, with Ohio State second, reigning national champion Georgia third, then Clemson and Notre Dame.
Coach Pat Narduzzi said yesterday that quarterback Kedon Slovis should be ready to go tomorrow when the Panthers return to training camp workouts after a day off today. Slovis apparently suffered a muscle spasm and left Saturday’s workout. Narduzzi said the USC transfer was out for “a little bit” of yesterday’s practice.
