Emergency crews were busy with damage caused by the strong thunderstorms that rolled through the area on Thursday, including multiple reports of trees down along Route 119.

The first report came at 3:55 PM as the Homer City Fire Department was dispatched to Route 119 North for a large tree that fell on 119 between the Homer City Sheetz and the Recycling Center. The large tree blocked both lanes of 119 North as evening rush hour started. Assistant chief Joe Iezzi, Jr. said that the department needed to bring in extra help to clear the tree.
Traffic had to be re-routed at the intersection of 119 and Lucerne road. A single lane of 119 South was also closed to give crews room to work.
A second incident was reported by Indiana County 911 was along 119 in Rayne Township. Indiana Fire Company Two was dispatched at 4:22 PM for that call. The county Emergency Management Agency also reported three calls for utility lines down, with two of them in Cherry Tree Borough and one in Rayne Township.
A vehicle crash was also reported on Route 286 in Cherryhill Township. It’s not known at this time if the crash was caused by the stormy conditions.
