A single preliminary hearing is scheduled today for a Blairsville woman charged in 32 separate criminal filings. Twenty-five of them are for forgery, theft by deception, and bad checks, allegedly involving an elderly woman whose account she raided. 44-year-old Alicia Jarvie, who is also listed as being from Seward, is also charged in two cases with just theft by deception, plus three counts of intimidating a witness.
The victim lives in East Wheatfield Township. Police have not yet detailed the amount of money involved, but have said the bad checks were cashed in three counties.
Jarvie is also involved in a criminal case in Blair County in which she was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a police chase. It happened in February when she was riding with Jonathan Thoma of Seward, who is accused of driving directly at two police cruisers in an attempt to crash into them during the pursuit. After Thoma abandoned the vehicle and tried to escape on foot, police say Jarvie gave them a false ID for him. She’s charged with hindering apprehension in that case.
Jarvie is due before District Judge Susanne Steffee in Homer City at 1:15 this afternoon.
