The 2022 PA Youth American Legion State Championship Tournament wrapped up action yesterday at First Commonwealth Bank Field in Homer City, and the Murrysville Eagles took home the crown.
Upper Perkiomen beat Northampton, 12-1, in the first semifinal game, but controversy marred the second semifinal matchup Tuesday morning. Connellsville squared off against Murrysville, but they would be forced to forfeit the game after they used an ineligible pitcher, granting Murrysville a trip to the final matchup.
Upper Perk took a 1-0 lead in the first inning but Murrysville posted a two-spot in the bottom of the second. The Eagles would pile on two runs in the third, followed by three runs in the fourth. They tacked on their final run in the fifth.
The Braves struck for two runs in the top of the sixth, but Murrysville thwarted the rally and won, 8-3.
