State officials announced yesterday that older Pennsylvanians and residents with disabilities who qualify for a rebate on rent or property taxes will be receiving more money than anticipated this year.
The Department of Revenue reports that a proposal to give one-time bonus rebates to claimants of the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program went into effect after Act 54 of 2022 was signed into law. Under this law, state residents who are approved for a rebate on property taxes or rent paid in 2021 will receive a one-time bonus rebate equal to 70 percent of their original amount.
When broken down, it means that a claimant could receive as much as $1,657.50 – up from a previous maximum amount of $975.
Funds will be used from the American Rescue Plan Act funds, and approximately $140 million in funding will be used for the one-time rebates.
Payments are set to be distributed towards the middle of the month. To find out more about eligibility, log on to the Department of Revenue’s website.
