A group of four Republican state representatives from Franklin County says in a joint statement that Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman’s “listening tour” of all 67 counties is “cover to push an agenda of legalizing drugs.”
Representatives John Hershey, Rob Kauffman, Paul Schemel, and Jesse Topper say they wonder if Fetterman is really “listening” to the opinions. They call the tour a “sham” and say they won’t be attending when he gets to Franklin County on May 2nd. Hershey attended a tour stop in Juniata County.
The statement points out that Fetterman is endorsed by “NORML”, the marijuana industry PAC which calls the lieutenant governor an “unrelenting champion” for legalizing recreational pot. The lawmakers say “incontestable research and experience” shows marijuana is dangerous, especially for youths, and leads to the use of harder drugs. Statistics from Colorado shows that since that state legalized recreational marijuana, DUIs, high school suspensions, and road fatalities all increased while job readiness decreased.
Fetterman’s Indiana County appearance was on April 15th, and as at other stops, his informal poll of the audience was favorable to legalizing pot. Our weekly poll this week on our Renda Broadcasting websites asks the question, “Should recreational marijuana use be legalized in Pennsylvania?”
