Some Clymer residents may have noticed that over the last two weeks, there had been some interruption in water service, or a drop in water pressure. This was due to some urgent repairs that needed to be done to Clymer’s Water System.
Borough Manager Rob Barto said two weeks ago, holes were discovered in the top of the Clear Water Tank, which holds the water after it has been treated, and the state Department of Environmental Protection gave Clymer only an hour to make a decision: issue a boil water notice for all Clymer residents or use the borough’s interconnect to use Indiana borough’s water. To make things easier for their residents, the borough decided to go with the interconnect option.
Seven days ago, while Clymer was still using water from Indiana, a water main broke in Clymer and the ensuing water shutoff caused more problems. Barto said that they had problems getting in touch with the citizens of Clymer, but by the next morning, the water was back on. A minor problem did cause another dip in water pressure, but that was quickly remedied.
Barto did reassure that on Wednesday, the water supply was switched back to Clymer’s system, as the Clear Water tank was repaired and the repairs passed DEP inspections.
