With the end of the academic year and the start soon of summer sessions, IUP is anticipating a very busy construction schedule in the coming months.
It started yesterday with the university putting up fencing in three different locations for a steam line-condensate replacement project. Streets will be blocked to traffic at Pratt Drive and Maple Street and at Eleventh and Grant streets; and the street will be open from Pratt to Eleventh Street, but the sidewalk will be blocked or partially blocked. The steam lines heat the buildings on the campus. IUP started its annual Steam Outage yesterday to cool and maintain the system and check for areas that need repairs.
Some of the other projects scheduled for the summer include:
- The replacement of the entrance to Pierce Hall, which started this week.
- The construction of Grant Street Park, which will replace the current street with green space. The first phase of the project is from Eleventh Street to the Grant Street entry to Putt Hall.
- The demolition of Leonard Hall, starting sometime in mid-June.
- The completion of the North Dining Facility by late July.
- The realignment of the HUB parking lot, along with new lighting and asphalt sealing, and accommodations for the new dining facility.
- Improvements to Miller Stadium, which will get a new track, new stands on the visitor side, handicapped accessible restrooms, and on the home side, new handicapped accessible viewing platforms and handrails.
