The Altoona Curve was swept in a doubleheader by Akron yesterday, 7-0 and 10-7. The Curve have lost four of their last five games after starting the season 5-0.
In the first game, Zach Plesac, the nephew of former Pirates’ pitcher Dan Plesac, held Altoona to just four hits, going six and two-thirds innings for the Rubber Ducks and at one point retiring twelve straight batters. Scooter Hightower gave up just two first inning runs before leaving in the fifth, but the Curve’s bullpen gave up five.
In the second game, the Curve and Ducks swapped the lead several times before Akron wiped out a four-run deficit with an eight-run sixth inning. Altoona reliever Tate Scioneaux failed to record an out and allowed a pair of two-run homers to tie the game, 6-6. Scioneaux allowed to more hits before he was lifted for Angel German, who walked his first batter and allowed a go-ahead, two-run single followed by a two-run single that out Akron ahead, 10-6. The Curve added a run on a wild pitch in the seventh inning.
The series wraps up today in Altoona.
