At a luncheon yesterday at the Rustic Lodge, the Indiana Regional Medical Center celebrated “Volunteer Services at IRMC-Marge’s Mission”, recognizing the 130 individuals who make up the volunteer corps at the hospital, and at IRMC at Chestnut Ridge.
The annual event included the naming of the 2019 Marge Sheeren Volunteer Service Award to Elaine Mulvihill, who was nominated be her fellow volunteers and IRMC employees. Mulvihill has been volunteering at IRMC for eight years, serving at the Information Desk, Surgical Waiting Room, Hospitality Cart, Mailroom, and Volunteer Office.
“We’re kind of like a big, happy family,” Mulvihill said. “We pay attention to each other, help each other if we have anything going on. It’s just a nice place to work, a very nice place to work, a very nice place to volunteer.”

President and CEO Steve Wolfe says the hospital’s volunteers are a vital part of the IRMC family. “To see people giving their time and talents and energies towards the care of others, and you know, they’re often the first impression that people have when they’re entering the hospital. Just the sincere generosity and smile and warmth that they have is absolutely unbelievable.”
The Marge Scheeren Volunteer Service Award “recognizes individuals who exemplify compassion and commitment to serving others through volunteering at IRMC. Marge Scheeren volunteered at IRMC for 55 years, from 1961 until shortly before her death in 2017.
