There’s no guarantee that this will deter drivers from making the infamous “Pennsylvania left”, but the state has announced $33 million in funding for 94 municipalities across the commonwealth for upgrading traffic signals. It’s part of PennDOT’s “Green Light-Go” program, which allows for the replacement of deficient traffic lights and upgrades to new technology that will reduce congestion.
One of the state grants goes to White Township, which is slated to receive $172,545 to upgrade the traffic lights at the busy intersection of Ben Franklin Road and Warren Road.
A new state law updated the Green Light-Go program to reduce the local matching fund requirement to twenty percent plus allowing partnerships between municipalities and their county. That means White Township and/or Indiana County would be on the hook for $34,509 for the signal upgrades.
