Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate went down slightly in the month of June.
According to the Department of Labor and Industry, the rate went down a tenth of a percentage point over the month of June to 4.5 percent. This marks the first time since September of 2019 that the state’s unemployment rate has been that low. L&I Secretary Jennifer Barrier said that this is just the latest achievement on the road to recovery from the unemployment surge during the Covid-19 pandemic.
By comparison, Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate at this time last year was at 6.8 percent. The national unemployment rate held steady over the last month, remaining at 3.6 percent.
The state’s civilian labor force increased by 7000 over the month. The total number of non-farm jobs went up 21,200 over the month to 5,950,900 in June. Seven of the eleven industry super sectors with the largest gain in education and health services.
