The State System of Higher Education on Thursday issued a news release saying that the system is getting ready to go into phase three of the system redesign.
The system redesign was originally launched in 2017 to address challenges facing the member colleges and universities by changing education and university business models. The first two phases of the project included information gathering, freezing tuition, and consolidating six universities into two distinct groups. The project will now enter Phase Three, which is designed to “develop, prioritize, fund and implement strategies that expand student opportunities, driving system growth and it’s economic impact on the state. The five priorities of the third phase are:
- Expand student opportunities and improve student outcomes
- Expand student affordability and growth
- Operate sustainably
- Enhance its partnership with the state
- Invest in people and in infrastructure
In a statement released Thursday, Chancellor Dan Greenstein said that to succeed in the redesign, higher education must be available to more students who are undeserved, getting them to succeed and thrive at the universities while preparing them for graduation and beyond. He also said that this third phase is the most meaningful part of the State System redesign.
