The state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has issued a “Fire Weather Watch” for dozens of Pennsylvania counties. While Indiana County is not one of them, two of our neighbors, Cambria and Clearfield are on the list.
A map issued yesterday by DCNR places Indiana County in the “moderate risk” category for wildfires, along with Armstrong, Cambria, Jefferson, Westmoreland, and 26 other counties. Clearfield and eleven other counties are listed at “high risk” for wildfires.
DCNR says 85 percent of wildfires happen in the spring, and with wind gusts of thirty miles per hour and more forecast across the commonwealth today, the risk is elevated.
HERE ARE THE COUNTIES INCLUDED IN THE “FIRE WEATHER WATCH”:
Adams; Bedford; Blair; Cambria; Cameron; Centre; Clearfield; Clinton; Columbia; Cumberland; Dauphin; Elk; Franklin; Fulton; Huntingdon; Juniata; Lancaster. Lebanon; Lycoming; McKean; Mifflin; Montour; Northumberland; Perry; Potter; Schuylkill; Snyder; Somerset; Sullivan; Tioga; Union; Warren; York
