The Nashville Predators jumped out to an early lead and goalie Pekka Rinne kept the Pittsburgh Penguins at bay as the Predators beat the Pens 3-1 last night at PPG Paints Arena.
The Preds scored one goal in each period, starting with Craig Smith at the 1:35 mark of the first period, Viktor Anderson at the 17:36 point of the second period, and P.K. Subban scored at the 17:28 mark of the third. Anderson’s goal was his 100th of his NHL career. The Pens lone goal was from Nick Bjugstad, at the 18:57 mark of the third period.
Pittsburgh Goalie Matt Murray stopped 23 of 26 shots, while Pekka Rinne was on fire, stopping 42 of 43 shots.
The Pens remain in third place in the metropolitan division with 95 points in 78 games played. They are five behind division-leading Washington, with 100 points in the standings, and two points behind The New York Islanders.
