DEP TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING FOR MINE EXPANSION IN BRUSH VALLEY

The state Department of Environmental Protection has scheduled an informal public meeting tomorrow afternoon to discuss major modifications to Rosebud Mining’s plans for its Brush Valley Mine and Barrett Mine.

Representatives of both Rosebud and DEP will be available to answer questions regarding an expansion of the Brush Valley Mine’s underground mining acreage and subsidence control area by 2,664.3 acres to the Lower Kittanning seam and to add the Upper Kittanning seam.  The plan also includes expansion of the underground mining acreage at the Barrett Mine by 1,158.2 acres to the Lower Kittanning seam.

The meeting will be from 1 to 3 PM tomorrow at the Brush Valley Fire Hall.  Anyone wishing to attend is asked to sign up ahead of time by emailing Tom Decker, DEP’s Community Relations Coordinator for the Northwest Region, at thomasdecke@pa.gov.

Written comments may also be provided by emailing environmental manager Troy Williams at troawillia@pa.gov. or by mail to the California District Mining Office, 25 Technology Drive, Coal Center, Pa, 15423.  The deadline to comment is August 3^rd, and DEP will address the written comments in a subsequent document.
