Saltsburg plated six runs in the fifth inning and went on to beat Blairsville by mercy rule, 14-1, on Thursday. Josh Gibbons started for the Trojans and held Blairsville to just two hits. Brady Yard hit two doubles and scored four runs and Alex Lassick drove in three runs for Saltsburg, which belted out 12 hits. Braden Staats knocked in Blairsville’s sole run in the fourth inning.
The Homer-Center Wildcats ran their record to 3-0 with a three-inning, 17-0, win over Harmony on Thursday. Jayke Saiani did not allow a hit, while striking out seven batters for the win . Evann Keslar went 2 for 2. Next up is a Tuesday game with United at Homer City.
In other games: Ligonier Valley is now 3-0 after a 12-2 win over United. Derry beat Jeannette, Northern Cambria prevailed over Purchase Line, and West Shamokin topped Penns Manor.
In softball , Marion Center nipped Indiana, 8-7, Ligonier Valley blasted United, 20-0, Penns Manor downed West Shamokin and Northern Cambria shut out Purchase Line.
