IUP sets new department record with 274 PSAC Scholar-Athletes

INDIANA, Pa. – For the sixth straight year, the IUP Athletic Department posted a new school record as 274 student-athletes earned Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) scholar-athlete distinction for the 2021-22 academic year.The 274 scholar-athletes broke the record of the previous mark of 271 in 2020-21. It’s the seventh-highest mark in the 18-school league. The 274 honorees represent more than 67 percent of IUP’s 412 total student-athletes, well above the PSAC-wide average of 53 percent. The PSAC announced in total 4,144 scholar-athletes from the 18 institutions have been named for the 2021-22 academic year. It marked 53 percent of the PSAC student-athlete population. The PSAC has now registered at least a 30 percent rate for 14 consecutive years. Twelve of the 18 institutions produced at least 200 scholar-athletes while 14 registered a rate of 50 percent or higher. In order to be eligible, the 2021-22 student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 upon completion of the academic year.
