The Pennsylvania budget signed into law on Friday included a large increase in basic education funding, and that has some school districts in Indiana County happy with the news.
The budget included a $525 million increase over last year’s budget to $7.3 billion in basic education funding. In Homer-Center School District, that means Homer-Center will receive $825,000 to $850,000 in combined basic and special education funding. Superintendent Curtis Whitesel said that the increase was definitely needed.
In the Indiana Area School District, the district saw a basic ed increase of over $972,000, and while business manager Jared Cronauer said that it was not as big as Governor Wolf had proposed, it was still very significant and welcome.
Cronauer called the increase in spending one of the biggest they have seen in a long time.
