The Homer-Center School Board met last night and approved the school calendar for the next year by a 6-3 vote.
The first day of school next year is August 20th, with the final day of school being a half-day on Monday, June 1st. One part of the calendar that came under contention was the length of the school year itself. It was a concern that was voiced to the board, according to Board President Michael Bertig.

Another concern was the December break around Christmas and New Year’s. The district will be on break for ten days during that period, but the idea was a point of contention with the school board. One member had wanted the break to be only eight days long, with students returning to school on January 2nd. However, because Christmas and New Year’s fall on Wednesdays, board members felt it would be easier to put the ten-day vacation in place.
In other business, the board approved the ARIN budget for the next school year. Homer-Center’s portion of the budget will come to $27,147.
