John O. Connell, known to friends as “Jack” passed away in Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, FL on Monday, March 11, 2019 at the age of 79 years.
Jack joined the United States Marine Corps after high school and served in the reserves for 6 years. He attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania and then graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Education and became a Certified Bank Auditor (CBA).
Before joining S&T Bank in Indiana, PA he was employed by Pittsburgh National Bank and Snodgrass and Associates. At S&T Bank he was a Senior Vice President in charge of Auditing and then served as Chief Financial Officer before retirement. Jack also served as President of the Blind Association and volunteered with many groups in the community.
Jack’s pastimes were many and included playing cards, gardening, IUP basketball, football and the Steelers. He loved spending time with Linda, Molly the Border Collie, and Andy the Shorkie in their RV and their home in Florida after retirement.
He was the son of Raphael and Ruth Eckenrode Connell. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Joseph.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years Linda Lenzi Connell, a son Brian and wife Amy, and two grandchildren, Zachary and Nicholas, and a sister Emma Kathryn Knight. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Jack will be missed by his family and many friends.
Friends will be received on Saturday from 6 to 9 P.M. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral home, Indiana. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11 A.M. at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Roman Catholic Church, Indiana. Private interment will be made in the Church cemetery.
