Rosters for this year’s MLB All-Star Futures Game were released and two Pirates prospects made the cut.
Last year’s No. 1 pick Henry Davis was named to the National League roster as one of four catchers after hitting a combined .278 batting average with 11 doubles, 10 home runs and 38 RBIs since joining the organization less than one year ago. Davis has played with the FCL Pirates, Greensboro Grasshoppers and Altoona Curve, which he’s currently on.
With his selection, Davis becomes the first catcher to represent the Pirates in the Futures Game since Elias Diaz suited up in 2015.
Also selected was former Curve pitcher Mike Burrows, who is currently with the Indianapolis Indians. The 22-year-old earned Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors in May and went 4-2 with a 2.94 ERA with Altoona.
He was called up to Indianapolis shortly after that.
Davis and Burrows mark the second straight duo to represent the Pirates in the Futures Game after pitchers Roansy Contreras and Quinn Priester played in last year’s game in Denver.
The Futures Game will take place Saturday, July 16 at 7 p.m.
