Today marks the sixth day into the new fiscal year for Pennsylvania, but there is still no budget in place.
Reports say that most lawmakers were absent from the State Capitol on Tuesday, but leaders are hoping that budget negotiations will wrap up in the next few days. Erica Clayton Wright, the press secretary for Senator Kim Ward out of Westmoreland County said that voting sessions were scheduled through Friday, but there is a possibility that a lot of budget action could take place as soon as Thursday, but that could change based on staff preparations and discussions. State house members are set to return to work today, and floor sessions are scheduled for tomorrow.
Some of the major discussion points for this year’s budget include expanded education spending, more money for nursing homes and county-administered mental health counseling programs, and a possible cut in the Corporate Net Income Tax.
