Both Indiana Borough Police and State police have issued warnings about thefts from vehicles.
Indiana Borough Police say they are receiving numerous reports of thefts from vehicles and vehicles that have been rummaged through. Borough police are asking residents to make sure their vehicles are locked. If possible, park in a well-lighted area. Do not keep valuable items in your vehicle, and store vehicle accessories out of sight.
Anyone experiencing a theft from their vehicle or observing suspicious activity are asked to contact borough police at 724-349-2121.
State police, too, have issued a warning to Indiana County residents regarding the theft of firearms from unlocked vehicles. Police say they’ve investigated a number of such thefts recently and they area stressing the importance of securing your vehicle, firearms, and other valuables.
To illustrate the point, police report the theft of two guns and a cell phone from an unlocked pickup truck in Cherryhill Township last night. It happened between 5 o’clock and 7 o’clock as 24-year-old Allen Post was fishing. His pickup was parked at Allen Bridge Road at Two Lick Creek Reservoir when someone stole a stainless steel .380 caliber pistol, a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson Hi-Point pistol, and an Alcatel phone. Anyone with information is asked to call 357-1960.
