Yesterday was deadline day for Kevin Murphy’s attorney to file an amended appeal of his convictions for the murders of his mother, sister, and aunt in 2009. There is no entry yet on his Westmoreland County Court docket sheet.
In January, Murphy was granted a sixth extension of time to file the amended motion for post-conviction relief. He is asking the court to declare that his original attorneys, Mark Bolkovac and Bob Bell, did not effectively defend him during his 2013 trial.
The women were found dead at the family’s glass business in Loyalhanna Township, Westmoreland County. Prosecutors said Murphy shot them because they objected to his affair with a married woman from Apollo.
Murphy is from Saltsburg and was sentenced to death after his conviction. He is now represented by attorney Brian Aston.
