A Blairsville man died in a motor vehicle accident in nearby Derry Township Friday night.
Westmoreland County Coroner Kenneth Bacha said in a news release that 77-year-old Robert Cochran died in a motor vehicle accident on March 1st . Cochran was driving his Suzuki SX4 south on Route 217 and was approaching the intersection with Curnow Drive when another car coming Northbound crossed the center lane and collided with Cochran’s car head on. Cochran was trapped in the vehicle and despite a seat belt being used and airbags deployed, he suffered multiple blunt force injuries. Deputy Coroner Joshua Zappone declared Cochran dead at the scene.
An autopsy has been performed and toxicology tests are pending . The cause and manner of death are pending the results of the tests and autopsy.
