School security was discussed at last night’s Indiana School Board meeting, and included in that discussion was recent developments in State Government.
Last week, that state senate education committee approved a bill from Senator Don White that would give school boards the authority to allow their teachers to carry concealed weapons to protect students. At last night’s meeting, increasing school security was discussed, including expanding armed security at the schools. Board member Walter Schroth said that he was in favor of the bill, but believes that the Indiana School District teachers shouldn’t be armed, because police forces are very close to all of the district’s schools.
At this point, there are no firm plans to expand armed security in the district, but that could change as the budget continues to be worked on. The preliminary budget will be voted on at their meeting May 8th.
In other business, the Indiana School District will perform water testing at all the schools in the district. It has been over 10 years since the district tested for lead in the water. The testing will cost the district $680.
