The state has announced more than $40 million in Transportation Commission funding for rail freight projects across the commonwealth.
Nine projects will be funded through the Rail Transportation Assistance Program and 25 through the Rail Freight Assistance Program. The projects include $1.86 million to rehabilitate about 220 miles of Buffalo & Pittsburgh railroad tracks in eleven counties, including Indiana, Armstrong, Clearfield, and Jefferson. More than 2,700 railroad ties and 35,000 feet of rail will be replaced.
Other rail projects were approved for Cambria, Clearfield, and Westmoreland counties.
The state says more an estimated 375 jobs will be supported through the projects.
